About the Event

TOGETHER.

Discarded is an interactive art installation that will engage you in exploring the beauty that can be found in the least likely places. Through this experience, together we will be challenged to expand our sense of self through community by looking inside ourselves and reconnecting with the things we have cast away and encouraging others to do the same.

 REPURPOSED.

The centerpiece of Discarded is Repurposed, the interactive part of the installation. You will be able to write down the things about yourself that you have decided to cast away. I will take those bits of self and artistically display them for others to see and appreciate. It is time to say yes to ourselves... even the parts we don't think belong.

 ABOUT.

While searching my archives in preparation for Strangers, an ongoing body of work, I stumbled upon these images: improperly exposed pieces of negatives from the beginning of rolls of film, pieces that were once overlooked without a second thought, now seen with curiosity and new excitement. Understanding that we as humans also bypass things about ourselves in order to get to the things we label as important, I found the vessel to the message: throwing away parts of ourselves deny others the ability to discover things we have in common, things to connect with.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS.

Opening Reception: Sunday, June 25th, 5 pm - 7 pm

Join me for my first show at Reno Public Market. Together we’ll explore the vision behind Discarded through an open gallery and an artist talk where I’ll be sharing what inspired me, as well as the process of creating Discarded. I’m also inviting you to participate in an interactive art experience where you will help me create Repurposed, the interactive installation of the series that will be showcased on Friday, June 29th. Limited-edition prints will be available to purchase, as well as a cash bar featuring mocktails inspired by the collection. Advance registration is encouraged; RSVP here.

Intro to Film Photography Workshop: Monday, June 26th, 6 pm - 7 pm

If you've been thinking about shooting film, but don't know where to start… Say no more. I designed this workshop to give you a basic understanding of film photography, how to pick your gear, and how to integrate it into your current photography workflow.

  • In this complimentary one-hour workshop, you will:
  • Learn why I choose to shoot film.
  • Learn about the different formats.
  • Learn about the different types of film.
  • Discover which camera is right for you.
  • And more.

Advance registration is required.

Discarded: Repurposed. Thursday, June 29th, 1 pm to 7 pm

I'm inviting you to join me anytime between 1pm and 7 pm, for as long as you like, in taking the things we throw away and creating something beautiful from them. I will be asking you to share your experiences through the written word, detailing the ways that others have tried to define you, and reclaim the parts of ourselves that we were told don't belong. I will then transform your words into something that honors who we are, who we were and how we choose to move through the world. This installation will be showcased on the final evening of the show on June 29th. If you are not able to attend in person, you can submit your artifacts to gregorybellejr@gmail.com.

Closing Reception: Friday, June 30th, 5 pm to 7 pm

For the final evening of Discarded, we will celebrate the installation that we co-created together and it will be your last chance to view Discarded.
